Membership: two paths
How payment works on both paths: you submit your payment information with your application and you will only be charged if you are approved. Approval is a manual decision. Nothing is charged for applying, for a declined application, or for an appeal.
Path 1 — Experienced professional (Professional Member)
- Apply with your work history and two authorized, client-redacted sample reports as proof of practice.
- Save a payment method (no charge).
- NBCSS reviews and approves manually.
- On approval your saved payment method is charged $395 for the first year of membership dues (renews annually).
- You receive an email to set up your member account and enter the private member portal.
Path 2 — Become a member and take the Practitioner Program (Practitioner Candidate Member)
- Tell us about the expertise you already have — accounting professional, CPA, enrolled agent, construction, home improvement, real estate, appraisal, engineering or other — and why you want the program.
- Save a payment method (no charge).
- NBCSS reviews and approves manually.
- On approval your saved payment method is charged $395 for the first year of membership dues (renews annually) plus $3,495 one time for the member-only Practitioner Program: $3,890 total. Pay in full; no installment plan.
- You receive an email to set up your member account, then start the program in the private member portal.

Completing the program earns a certificate of completion for NBCSS Professional Development. The Certified Cost Segregation Specialist (CCSS) credential is a separate assessed decision made by qualified reviewers under the published scheme; payment, membership approval and course completion never award it.
